Keffi Old Boys urge more infrastructures for alma mater

Some Old Boys of Government College, Keffi, Nasarawa State, have called on governments at all levels and public spirited individuals to assist in providing more infrastructures in the school.

The former students, who made the call in an interview with newsmen in Keffi, said the assistance would go a long way in improving teaching and learning in the oldest secondary school in the state.

They said the gesture would also improve the standard of education in the state.

One of them, Mr Sam Israel, said the college needed more facilities in order to adequately cater for its needs, and therefore, urged the Federal Government to intervene by providing more infrastructures to the school.

Israel, who is the National Secretary of the Keffi Old Boys Association (KOBA), however, commended the Nasarawa State Government, the old boys and other individuals for their commitment toward the development of the school and called for the sustenance of the gesture.

” The college is in full session as students admission cuts across the 19 Northern States and other states in Nigeria, as the school has produced many important personalities including late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

” The state of the college facilities needs urgent attention. Most of the laboratories need complete renovation and upgrading.

” Though, the Nasarawa State Government has done greatly, classrooms and dormitories lack the necessary facilities to make them meet the required standard,’ he said.

He also called on the private sector to assist in developing the school, considering the importance of education to societal development.

The national secretary said the old boys of the college had been immensely assisting the college which he said, had helped to sustain its operations.

” Private sector can as well invest in the college through their various intervention programmes,” he said.

Another old boy and the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state branch of KOBA, Alhaji Jibrin Gwamna, called for the upgrading of facilities in the school for improved standard of education.

“More needs to be done in terms of facilities; many old historic structures in the school are decaying. The school needs to be given more attention in both facilities and personnel

” Considering the fact that it has produced prominent Nigerians, including late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua,” Gwamna said.

He also called on the government to complete the President Yar’Adua e-library project in the school to serve as a mark of honour to the late president.

He said some of the old boys had been sending their children to the college as the association had encouraged them to do so, in order to remember their legacies and for the overall development of the country.

“By so doing, members will be encouraged to contribute their resources toward uplifting the standard of the school for them to complement government efforts,” he said.

Similary, two other old boys of the school, Mr Mohammed Adamu and Nathaniel Bulus, also called on the federal government and state governments as well as individuals to come to the aid of the school in order to improve the standard of teaching and learning there.
