The Police Command in Kebbi State says it averted a serious crisis in Wara town following the discovery of a young lady’s corpse at Libata in Ngaski Local Government Area of the state.

DSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO),  disclosed this to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

Some aggrieved youths of Libata village have on Tuesday invaded Wara Divisional Police Headquarters following the kidnapping and killing of a young girl by suspected ritualists.

The innocent young girl was declared missing some days ago only to discover her corpse at an uncompleted building in the village.

Abubakar, however, said that the protesting youths succeeded in burning down the prime suspect’s house and his vehicle.

While appealing to the people of the area to remain calm, the PPRO also urged them to avoid taking the laws into their hands.

He enjoined them to endeavour to report to the appropriate authorities any security issue for necessary action.

An eye witness, who pleaded anonymity, said that the development prompted the mob action and demand for the arrest of the prime suspect and his accomplice.

The source said, “The corpse of the kidnapped young girl was discovered at an uncompleted building adjacent to the house of the prime suspect in Libata today.

“Some good Samaritan reported the case to the police who mobilised their men and a medical doctor to the scene, only to discover that the deceased private part was tempered with.

“It was also discovered that her intestine flopped out through the area and the corpse swole up.

“This is what actually prompted the youth to invade Wara Divisional Police Headquarters.”

The source added that the police had to use tear gas to disperse the youths in order to restore normalcy in the area.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mrs Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, Head of Corporate Communications of the company, on Tuesday in Lagos.

Yinka-Olawuyi also described as unfounded, an allegation that unpatriotic Nigerian were using private Point of Sale (POS) machines within the terminal to carry out fraudulent payments.

She said that the company was commitment to maintaining a secure, transparent and efficient airport environment.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has said that Nigerians spends N16.5 trillion annually on fuel and the servicing of generators.

Adelabu made this known on Tuesday at the ongoing NOG Energy Week in Abuja.

The minister attributed his assertion to research in 2023. However, he did not give the exact details but rather compared the figure to the 225 per cent electricity tariff hike of April 3, 2024.

“What Nigerians spend on self-generation of power—on fueling and servicing their generators—is N16.5 trillion, according to research that was carried out in 2023. Looking at this, you will see that what Band A customers pay is still cheaper compared to this, despite having 24-hour uninterrupted supply,” he said.

He further declared that “over $1 billion in investments have been placed into renewable energy sources by foreign lenders and institutions,” adding that his ministry, under the guide and support of President Tinubu, is making giant strides in energy and gas developments.
