Kebbi Police rescue 36 kidnapped victims

Operatives of the Kebbi State Police Command have rescued 36 kidnapped victims along the Mairairai/Bena road in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, made this known in a statement on Monday in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

He said the gunmen in large numbers barricaded Mairairai/Bena road on December 8, 2024, and kidnapped 36 people who were coming back from their respective farms.

According to him, upon receipt of the report, a combined team of the Police, Army and vigilante mobilised to the scene and engaged the bandits in a gun duel, overpowered them, forcing them to escape into the forest with gunshot wounds.

The police image maker said they rescued the 36 victims unhurt and they have since been reunited with their families.

Reacting, the State Police Commissioner, Bello Sani, applauded the officers’ bravery, resilience, and professionalism and urged them to be more committed to not making Kebbi State a safe haven for criminals.

Sani charged the officers and other security agencies operating in the area to intensify synergy among them to decisively deal with the bandits and other unscrupulous elements.
