The Kebbi Government, has set-up an eight-man committee to investigate October 17 violent protest at College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, Jega Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, made this known shortly after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

“Following the October 17 violent protest that resulted in the setting ablaze the residence of the Provost of the college, Alhaji Haruna Saidu-Sauwa, and the subsequent directive to shut down the college, eight-man committee has been set-up to investigate the incident,” he said.

Ahmed-BK announced that the Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa-Tungulawa, would chair the committee, while Safiyanu Garba-Bena would serve as Secretary of the committee.

According to him, the committee’s terms of reference is to investigate the causes of the incident; quantify the extent of the damage, and recommend ways to avert future recurrence, among others.

The commissioner added that the aim of constituting the committee was to ensure justice to all the parties involved devoid of favouritism, nepotism and sentimental inclination.

He said the committee, which replaced the earlier one established, has two weeks to complete its assignment and report back to the state executive council for submission and consideration.
