Katsina govt. to invest N30bn in irrigation farming 

The Katsina State Government has announced a planned investment of N30 billion in irrigation farming to enhance the agricultural sector in the state. Governor Dikko Radda made this announcement on Monday, following his return from a month-long vacation, and stated that he is ready to advance the state’s development.

The investment aims to promote year-round farming by expanding irrigation capabilities and ensuring farmers can cultivate crops beyond the rainy season. Part of the funding will be used to establish mechanized agricultural centers in each of the 34 local government areas, which will provide training in modern farming techniques and supply necessary agricultural equipment.

During his visit to China, Governor Radda sought to build partnerships and attract investments to further develop Katsina’s agricultural sector. With approximately 90 percent of the state’s population engaged in farming, these initiatives are expected to significantly benefit local communities and boost the state’s economy.

The governor also announced plans to tour the three senatorial zones of the state to engage with stakeholders and discuss community-driven projects. This tour will include town hall meetings designed to align government policies with the people’s needs and aspirations.

Governor Radda emphasized his administration’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by residents, including their hardships and security concerns. He plans to recruit and train young men from selected local governments for the Katsina Security Watch Corps to strengthen state security.

Radda expressed gratitude for the public’s patience and understanding and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to improving citizens’ welfare. He praised his deputy, Alhaji Faruk Jobe, for his leadership as acting governor and thanked the State House of Assembly for its support in advancing the state’s objectives.
