Katsina Govt to establish Zakkat Commission

The Katsina State Government has said that it will soon pass a law, establishing a Zakkat and Waqaf Commission as an agency in the State Civil Service.

The aim the state government said is to empower the existing Katsina Zakkat and Waqaf Board so as to effectively coordinate the activities of Zakkat’s disbursement, in the near future.

Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, who made this known in a statement said his principal made the commitment while laying a 400 housing unit foundation for orphans and displaced persons in the state at Dandagoro, Batagarwa local government area yesterday.

Gov. Radda appreciated the Chairman of Atta’awwun Islamic foundation for initiating the project. He assured that the State Government and its 34 local governments would contribute N100,000,000 million, representing ten percent of the project’s total cost.

Radda who announced a personal donation of N5,000,000 million to the endowment fund called for more financial assistance from spirited Katsina personalities, for the project.

Dr. Ahmad Musa Abdullahi, Chairman of Atta’awuni Foundation, who initiated the housing project said it consists of 400 housing units, a school for both western and Islamic education and a Health Centre.

“There is also going to be a Skills Acquisition Centre, and a nursery belt for nursing and selling economic trees,” he added.

While thanking Alhaji Bature Ahmed Kofar Bai for donating the 2.5 hectares of land for the project and other donors as well, Dr. Musa Abdullahi, disclosed that the endowment fund had so far generated over N200 million.

Aside from contributions received from Katsina Muslim, Abdullahi said they also received donations from the following neighboring countries: Niger, Ghana, America and Saudi Arabia.

The Emir of Katsina, represented by the Yandakan Katsina, Alh. Sada Mohammed Sada, and that of Daura, represented by Shiekh Nazir Kofar Baru, also presented donations from their respective Emirates.
