Kano Govt rolls out free school uniforms for 796,000 pupils
The Kano State Government has said it will begin the distribution of free school uniforms to 796,092 pupils from yesterday.
This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, the program targets 789,000 male and female students enrolled in 7,092 public schools across all 44 local government areas in Kano.
The government is providing a full set of uniforms to each student, starting from yesterday, Monday.
The initiative is designed not only to ease the financial burden on indigent families but also to encourage school enrollment, especially in marginalized communities.
Waiya explained that the uniform distribution is a significant part of Governor Yusuf’s broader agenda to tackle the high number of out-of-school children in the state.
“By prioritising education, we are opening doors for every child, ensuring that no pupil is left behind due to financial constraints.
“This initiative reflects the governor’s commitment to creating an even playing field for all children, regardless of their socio-economic background,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the gesture would positively impact both enrollment rates and academic performance, enabling the children of Kano to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state and the nation at large.
