Kano Govt reopens 15 girls’ secondary schools, vows to revive education sector

In a move to revive the education sector in Kano State, the state government has reopened 15 girls’ secondary schools that were previously closed.

The decision was announced by Governor Abba Yusuf during an unscheduled visit to Government Girls Secondary School in Albasu.

The governor expressed disappointment over the closure of the schools, which halted the education of many talented girls. He instructed the Ministry of Education to urgently post teachers for English, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences to enhance the school’s pedagogy.

Rehabilitation work has commenced for the re-boarded schools, with plans to resume academic activities in the next school calendar, starting next week.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to building and rehabilitating classrooms, providing furniture and teaching aids, and creating a conducive learning environment across the state.

The governor also inspected the 98% completed Albasu 5-kilometre road project and urged the contractor to expedite the remaining work.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fully implementing the state of emergency on education, ensuring improved educational opportunities for all students in Kano State.

“We are committed to reviving the education sector in Kano State,’ Governor Yusuf said.

“We will leave no stone unturned in our quest to provide quality education for all students, regardless of their background or socio-economic status,” he added.
