Kano Govt enrolls inmates in healthcare scheme to ensure access to free medical services

The Kano State Government has enrolled inmates in its healthcare contributory scheme as part of efforts to enhance access to free and quality healthcare services for those in custody.

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) in Kano, CSC Musbahu Kofar-Nasarawa, made the announcement in a press statement on Monday in Kano.

Kofar-Nasarawa revealed that the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Healthcare Management Agency, Dr. Rahila Aliyu-Mukhtar, made the disclosure during a visit to the State Controller of NCoS, Mr. Ado Salisu, in his office.

Dr. Aliyu-Mukhtar explained that the enrolment of inmates into the healthcare scheme had been approved by Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, with the aim of providing free access to both basic and comprehensive healthcare services for inmates while they are in custody.

“The health and medical welfare of inmates are crucial for effective custodial management, as well as for their reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration,” she said.

She further assured the Controller of the state government’s commitment to providing medical support for all inmates while they are in custody.

Dr. Aliyu-Mukhtar also encouraged the inmates to continue praying for Governor Yusuf, so that the provisions of democratic benefits may continue for all.

In response, Mr. Ado Salisu, the Controller of Corrections for Kano State Command, commended the state government for its ongoing support and assistance to the Command.

Salisu noted that the initiative would inspire the inmates to become more productive and law-abiding citizens upon their release..
