Kano govt. commits N670m to combat malnutrition, improve child health

Kano, Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has released N500 million as counterpart funding to UNICEF for the implementation of nutrition initiatives in the state.
This is contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, in Kano on Thursday.
According to Dawakin Tofa, the governor announced the release during the launching of the second Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Week held in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
He quoted the governor as reaffirming his commitment to tackling malnutrition and enhancing maternal and child health in the state.
He said the governor also announced the allocation of N170 million for the renovation and upgrading of malnutrition treatment centers and referral centers aimed at combating child killer diseases and improving access to life-saving healthcare services.
“This administration is resolute in its mission to fight malnutrition and prevent diseases that threaten the lives of our children.
“By committing these funds, we are taking a bold step toward ensuring a healthier and brighter future for our children and families.
“The MNCH Week delivers essential healthcare services, including immunizations, antenatal care, nutritional supplements and public health awareness campaigns, targeting the most vulnerable populations in Kano State,” he said.
He emphasised that the interventions were part of his government’s comprehensive strategy to strengthen the healthcare system, reduce maternal and child mortality, foster sustainable development and access to quality healthcare services in the state.
“This landmark investment underscores the state government’s dedication to addressing critical health challenges and improving the quality of life for residents,”the governor added
