Kano Governor unveils N260m empowerment program in Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has launched a groundbreaking monthly empowerment program, providing N50,000 to 5,200 women across the state’s 44 Local Government areas.

This initiative, totaling N260 million, aims to support small-scale businesses and enhance the economic status of women, acknowledging their significant familial responsibilities.

The program, managed by the Community Re-orientation Committee (CRC), targets 100 women from each of the 36 rural Local Governments and 200 women from each of the 8 metropolitan LGAs.

Yusuf emphasised that this initiative is a token of appreciation for the women’s overwhelming support during the 2023 elections, fulfilling his promise to make them self-reliant and support their health and well-being.

The grant is intended to fund small-scale businesses such as awara, gireba, koko da kosai, local juices, and kuli-kuli. Additionally, the state government has renovated and upgraded hospitals, particularly maternity and pediatric units, to ease the suffering of women and children.

The governor urged the beneficiaries to utilise the grant judiciously and warned officials against attempting to defraud the women.

This empowerment program will be sustained for the next 36 months, benefiting over 200,000 women throughout Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s first tenure.

This initiative marks a significant step towards empowering women and enhancing their lives in Kano State.
