Troops from I Division of the Nigerian Army have eliminated one terrorist and seized four AK-47 magazines in Kaduna State.

This was disclosed in a statement made available to Nigerian NewsDirect, released by Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the I Division of the Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya,  on Monday.

“During clearance operations on August 25 in the areas of Sabon Birni, Dogon Dawa, Maidaro, Ngede Alpha, and Rafin Kaji, the troops encountered terrorist elements.

“In the ensuing firefight, our troops overpowered and eliminated one of the terrorists, while the others fled with suspected gunshot wounds,” the statement read.

Yahaya reported that four AK-47 magazines (three fully loaded with a total of 60 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and one empty), a PKT belt with 86 rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles (one of which was destroyed), a Techno mobile phone, a Baofeng handheld radio, and an Airtel recharge card valued at N5,000 were recovered.

He stated that the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of I Division and Commander of “Operation WHIRL PUNCH,” Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, praised the troops for their successful operation.

He also urged them to intensify their efforts and make life increasingly difficult for all terrorists, insurgents, and their collaborators within the Division’s Area of Responsibility, praising the residents of Kaduna, Kano, Niger, and Jigawa States for their ongoing cooperation.

He also encouraged them to utilise the division’s Toll-Free Line, “0800 002 0204,” to provide actionable intelligence and information that will help the Division and other security agencies in their efforts against criminal elements.
