The Kaduna State Fire Service on Monday said it recorded 79 fire outbreaks in February.
The Director of the Service, Mr Paul Aboi, told newsmen in Kaduna that its personnel within the period rescued five persons unhurt in fire incidents while nine others sustained injuries.
He said the fire service had embarked on massive sensitization of the people to stem fire incidents in the state and save lives and property.
The director noted that with the quick response of the service, properties worth N26 million were saved from the 79 fire incidents.
Aboi said the number of outbreak had reduced compared to 112 recorded in March.
“Harmattan period has always brought the highest record of fire outbreaks but we cannot relent in sensitising the public.
“Our quick response to fire outbreaks is dependent on how fast the office is notified,” he added.
Aboi advised business operators, especially owners of roadside eateries and suya spots, to ensure that fires were properly put out at the close of business every day to stem the tide of fire outbreaks.
He called on the people to always switch off electrical appliances to save lives and property and desist from plugging their chargeable lamps when not at home.
