Kaduna PDP chair warns Wike against destroying the party

Felix Hyat, the Kaduna State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has advised Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to avoid actions that could damage the party he played a significant role in building.

In an interview in Kaduna on Tuesday, Hyat, who previously served as Aviation Minister, urged Wike to pursue resolution through dialogue instead of threatening PDP governors who support Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State. This appeal comes in the midst of a party crisis marked by Wike’s threats against governors backing his successor.

During a PDP Congress in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike warned of potential political turmoil in the states of any PDP governor who interferes with party matters in the South-South region. However, Hyat contends that these governors have legitimate reasons for their involvement, given their role in supporting a fellow party member, Fubara.

Hyat reminded Wike that during his tenure as governor, he benefited from the support of his fellow governors, who were instrumental in safeguarding each other’s interests. He argued that Wike should adopt a similar perspective and seek their support rather than alienate them.

Hyat emphasized that it is counterproductive to isolate those who are part of the system under threat, asserting that a failure of the system would result in a loss for everyone involved. He urged Wike to focus on dialogue and reconciliation rather than actions that could further exacerbate the party’s current issues.
