Kaduna Government pledges protection for agricultural investments
The Kaduna State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding agricultural investments by promptly releasing funds and strengthening biosecurity measures across the poultry sector.
State Commissioner for Agriculture, Murtala Dabo, made this known while addressing concerns over reported cases of Avian Influenza, commonly known as Bird Flu, in Kano, Plateau, and Rivers states.
Dabo stated that the Kaduna State Government, under Governor Uba Sani, had initiated engagements with poultry industry stakeholders and procured disinfectants to decontaminate live bird markets and targeted poultry farms.
He said, “Governor Uba Sani has ensured weekly state-wide disinfection and decontamination of slaughterhouses and abattoirs in all local government areas.
“Other measures include media campaigns to raise public awareness and active surveillance at all entry points.”
The commissioner assured residents that the government, through the Department of Veterinary Services, was implementing all necessary measures to contain the outbreak.
“The government is working with all critical stakeholders around the clock to ensure swift containment of the avian influenza outbreak.
“Control activities have been intensified across all local government areas, and affected farms have been identified. Rapid response teams are on the ground to enforce necessary containment measures,” he stated.
Dabo urged the public to remain calm, emphasising the government’s dedication to resolving the situation effectively.
