The Federal Government has vowed to end insecurity in Nigeria to avert incessant killings particularly the killing of innocent Kaduna terrorists have struck in a fresh attack in Kaduna State, burning thirty houses and killing eleven.

This is coming on the heels of the Federal Government’s pledge to ensure significant change in Nigeria’s security situation.

The attack, which happened in the early hours of Sunday, occurred in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, on behalf of the State Government, said security troops have launched search-and-rescue operations and are in pursuit of the attackers.

Aruwan added that while eleven residents were confirmed killed, some sustained injuries from gunshot.

It was, however, added that the injured have been evacuated for treatment.

The statement read, “Security forces have reported to the Kaduna State Government that Kurmin Masara general area of Zangon Kataf LGA was attacked in the early hours of Sunday.

“According to the reports, troops of the Nigerian Air Force Special Forces who responded to distress calls from the area also fell into an ambush as they mobilised to the scene of the attack.

“The troops cleared the ambush and reached the general area, along with troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH).

“As of 4:30 p.m., eleven residents were confirmed killed, and some inflicted with gunshot injuries.

“Over thirty houses and properties were burnt in the attack.

“The injured were evacuated for treatment. Search-and-rescue operations and pursuit of the attackers are in progress on different fronts.

“The Government of Kaduna State will make public further details as soon as they are received from security forces.

“Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i, who has been in touch with the security forces and receiving hourly briefings, expressed sadness at this report of the latest in a series of attacks in the area.

“He prayed for the repose of all those killed and conveyed his condolences to their families. He further wished the injured a speedy recovery.”

The Emir of Katsina, HRH Abdulmumini Kabir said dialogue with bandits has failed, adding that the only way to end banditry in Nigeria is by annihilating bandits whenever they are caught.

The Royal Father made the declaration over the weekend at his palace during the Vice President Yemi Osibanjo’s condolence visit to the state.

In his words, “I am really troubled, so is our Governor here but I am very happy now that they have been officially declared terrorists. So, you catch and kill them. That is the only solution since dialoguewith them has failed.”

He lamented that, “How can someone kill 20 to 30 person and be taken to correction centre? It will not augur well. If he comes out, he will go back to his old ways.”

As FG vows to end insecurity

Meanwhile, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said Nigerians should expect changes in the country’s security situation, following the Federal Government’s declaration of bandits as terrorists.

The Vice President noted that bandits were officially declared as terrorists to enable security agencies take more stringent measures against them.

With all the new security measures in the country, he said, “we should be able to see a very significant change in Nigeria’s security situation.”
