Jumia drivers face court for allegedly stealing N10m worth of goods

Two drivers employed by e-commerce company, Jumia Nigeria, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing goods worth N10 million from the company.

The defendants are 32-year-old Charlie Duke, who lives at 106, Olabua St., Orile Agege, Lagos State, and 52-year-old Okuchukwu Okoro, a resident of 41, Ogooluwa St., Ojodu Berger, Lagos State.

They are charged with conspiracy and stealing but pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Aug. 18 at Jumia Nigeria’s warehouse located at 1b, Surulere St., Ogba, Lagos State.

Akeem said that the defendants stole television sets, sound systems, fans and phones from the warehouse and were caught by security guards.

Akeem said that the defendants confessed that they had been stealing from the company.

Akeem alleged that some of the stolen television sets, rechargeable fans and sound systems were found in the defendants’ houses.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 287, 329 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate ,Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million each with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until Oct. 23 for mention.
