Journalists charged to assist in nation-building

Journalists across the country have been charged to be partners in nation building and help the society de-escalate tension.
They were further urged to propagate the nation’s common ideals rather than what would divide the nation.
Olowu of Owu-Kuta, Oba Hameed Oyelude Makama gave the charge during his investiture as the life patron of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Osun State Broadcasting Corporation chapel on Wednesday.
Congratulating the revered monarch, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola described him as “a man of the people, even beyond his domain who represents our culture.”
The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode added that Oba Makama is readily available and a good support of his administration noting that he deserves the honour conferred upon him.
“He represents that our culture is important, we must not leave our culture behind, it’s what that binds us. We appreciate what our monarch is doing to keep our culture and community together. It is worth commending. We are all one in Osun regardless of your tribe. We celebrate you, may your days be long. Let’s work well with this administration and our journey will be easy. Congratulations!”
In his address, the Chairman of the occasion, Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), Nigerian Ambassador to The Republic Of Benin and Former chief of staff described the honoured monarch as a father to all and a bridge builder whose quest for peace and development in his kingdom and Nigeria is unparalleled.
Gen. Buratai who was represented by Brig. Gen. Kukasheka Usman (rtd), former Spokesman of the Nigerian Army extolled his patriotism and kind disposition to the military and security agencies in Nigeria.
“This and many other qualities endeared him to all Nigerians and peace-loving people across the world. I therefore, call for more recognition of our royal fathers and traditional rulers in society given the immense role they play in the society. This will enhance more understanding, peace and security in our country. Congratulations Kabesi, and I wish all here present to rejoice with us, a good time as we witness this historic moment,” he said.
Earlier in his address, the Nigerian Union of Journalists OSBC chapel Chairman, Comrade Olatunde Adeyemo stated that Oba Makama’s investiture is well deserved, describing him as “a father, a leading Nigerian monarch and a positive expansionist, who share our vision; especially the legacy bequeath to us by our past and present leaders.”
Receiving the honour, the Olowu of Owu-Kuta said, “I will use my patronship to do things that would unite this country, things that would promote the interest of all well meaning Nigerians.”
