Joint security operatives broker peace between communities in Benue

In response to the ongoing land dispute between the Opute Community in Oju Local Government Area and the Bonta Community in Konshisha Local Government Area, and in an effort to foster peace and find a permanent solution, Brigadier General A. Rabiu, Commander of the 401 Special Brigade / SECT 1, along with the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Hassan Steve Yabanet, held a peace meeting on Monday, July 15.

The meeting took place at the Local Government Council Secretariat in Konshisha LGA and included the Local Government Council Chairman, traditional leaders, and stakeholders. The purpose was to discuss and develop strategies to resolve the conflict permanently.

Nigerian NewsDirect reports that the State Commissioner for Humanitarian and Disaster Management and the Chairman of Asset Recovery Affairs, Benue State, were also present at the meeting.

The Commander of the 401 Special Forces Brigade advocated for peace and urged the locals to live harmoniously. He also cautioned the youths against taking the law into their own hands and encouraged them to present their grievances to the appropriate authorities.

The affected communities were advised to await the Boundary Demarcation Commission to demarcate the disputed land and embrace peaceful coexistence among themselves for the overall good and development of the state now that a Reverend gentleman is on the throne.

Nigerian NewsDirect reports that the meeting, which was well-attended by various stakeholders from the affected communities, concluded around 3 p.m. The operation visit was hitch free.
