Jigawa: Tea seller kills 20-year-old man over theft

A tragic situation in Sararai village, Jigawar Tsada town, Dutse Local Government Council has come to light. Abdulrashidu Ya’u, a 40-year-old tea seller, is accused of beating 20-year-old Hassan Garba to death.

Ya’u reportedly accused Garba of stealing bread, milk, noodles, and petrol. After receiving the report, a patrol team responded promptly, arresting Ya’u and rushing Garba to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

This information was provided in a statement from the command’s public relations officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, in Dutse.

According to Adam, during the investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, Ya’u confessed to the crime. He claimed that Garba’s repeated thefts drove him to take the law into his own hands, especially after he had informed Garba’s parents about the thefts, but no action was taken.

In a fit of rage, Ya’u bound Garba with a rope and beat him with a stick, which led to Garba’s death.

Neighbours reported hearing Garba’s cries for help but were unable to intervene until the police arrived.

“Following a thorough investigation, Ya’u will be arraigned in court to face the full extent of the law,” the PPRO stated.
