Jigawa govt releases N1.7 million to tackle ecological issues

Jigawa State government has released 1.7 billion for the full implementation of cares programme implemented by the federal government nationwide under the World Bank programme.

This was disclosed by the Jigawa state Commissioner of Finance, Babangida Umar Gantsa during a press briefing in his office.

While fielding questions from newsmen, Gantsa said in the area of ecology, the state has over N1.7 billion saved in their account to tackle the issue.

He testified that they have saved a lot in the contingency account to ensure the success of cares programme introduce by world bank and federal government of Nigeria.

The commissioner said “the NG cares programme was designed as perfomance for result P for R programme which will provide grants to find numerous projects is in line with the principles of communication its driven development approach existing platforms or MDAs will use to deliver the programme suc as Fadama development office, state cash transfer unit and directorate of economic empowerment and the state ministry of commerce will be responsible for the three targeted result areas.

“For effective delivery the jigawa state government has established overall coordination unit of the programme under budget and economic planning for the implementation the state cares streering committee comprising of commissioner, permanent secretary.

“Jigawa state NG cares programme is implementing six disbursement link indicator DLIS from the three result areas and were chosen by the state government during the programme appraisal.

“The result 1 social safety net and basic service delivery and the second result is on food security and safe food delivery under that second result o er 5000 farmers are expected to benefit from the projects.

“While the 3rd result is facilitating recovery and enhancing capabilities aimed at scaling up intervention that help SMEs through grants to support post covid 19 loans to enhance the capabilities.”

The commissioner explained further that “the world bank has already advanced the sum of N700million in to the jigawa state account for the smooth take off of the programme in the state.

This in consideration of the tight financial stituation beign experiance across the states due to the jigawa state commitment, the commissioner said the sum of N1,000,000,000 from the state treasury was released to complement the advance payment to achieve the first six months targeted as approved by the Jigawa state government.

While doing a breakdown, the commissioner said under result 1 for livelihood, the sum of 365,863,210 and 410,995,790 has been earmarked for that programme.

For the second day result under Fadama programme, the sum of N678,260,000 is expected to be spent.

While for the result three under commerce, the sum of N204881,000 has been earmarked.
