Jigawa Govt empowers 1,000 people living with disabilities with N3.7m

The Jigawa State Government has empowered 1,000 people with disabilities.
The Government also doled out N3.7 million to the individuals with disabilities with each person receiving the sum of N30,000 as financial support to start a business.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor of Jigawa state, Umar Namadi vowed that the government will do its best to empower the people in the state .
Namadi said this is the beginning because they have the mechanism to monitor the system to ensure that people who are targeted to be empowered are properly empowered.
He also urged them to utilise the money given to them as support wisely while noting that the government is on course to review the monthly stipend of seven thousand naira to people with disabilities
He assured them that his government is willing to expand the programme by including more disabled persons in the register and deleting the name of those demised in the register.
The Governor added that Data based register would be introduced to register all disabled and orphans in the state to ensure government interventions are directly reaching them.
The Governor added that the registration will commence under the ministry of women affairs to ensure all people living with disabilities are registered.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Executive Secretary Jigawa State Directorate of Empowerment, Dr Habib Muhd Ubali explained that fifteen people among the disabled were selected to undergo a training on welding.
He also called on the state government to continue to support the people living with disabilities because they are in need of serious attention especially in the area of education.
