The Jigawa State House of Assembly has constituted an eight-member ad hoc committee to review the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) and Local Government Laws.
The committee was mandated to review the SIEC and the Local Government Laws to be in conformity with the Electoral Act 2022.
The Speaker, Haruna Aliyu, who inaugurated the committee at the plenary on Tuesday, said that the committee would be chaired by his deputy, Sani Isyaku (APC – Gumel Constituency).
The development was sequel to the adoption of a report by its Committee on Local Government which studied a petition presented by the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC).
It will be recalled that IPAC in a communique issued at the end of its meeting on March 25, and read at the floor of the House on April 17, advocated for the review of the SIEC and Local Government Laws.
The House had earlier refered the communique to its Committee on Local Government for further legislative actions.
