The Joint Aviation Trade Unions Forum (JATUF) Owerri chapter, has called on the federal government to evolve adequate budgetary provision for improved capacity building and smooth operation of the aviation sector considering its role in nation’s rapid development
This is Rising from a two day retreat at Rento hotels, Owerri.
JATUF in a 14 points resolution, also identified the need for succession planning in the aviation industry through adequate capacity building career mentorship and motivational incentives.
The resolution signed by Comrades Illitrus Ahmadu and Hector Nnadi, Chairman and secretary respectively, the Forum urged management of aviation agencies as practiced all over the world, to consider and respect the opinions, views and positions of trade unions before arriving at critical decisions affecting workers.
It further stressed the need to adopt strong human resource management policies aimed at ensuring harmonization and to enhance workers career and welfare.In order to ensure mutual trust among them, called for cooperation, reliability, confidence and understanding stressing that they should form strong alliance by strengthening JATUF to secure workers interest through a jointly agreed sectoral collective bargaining agreements.
The Forum further identified that both management and the leadership of trade unions in the country to always adopt a consultative decision-making approach through shared roles and responsibilities.
It added that when necessary the government might set up interventionist mechanisms to mitigate escalation of trade disputes and conflicts stressing the need for government to adopt a professional outlook approach by recognizing the rights of workers and the unions as partners in progress.
