James tells Southgate to drop two Chelsea players, start Foden, others

Former England goalkeeper, David James, has urged manager Gareth Southgate to drop Chelsea players, Mason Mount and Raheem Sterling against Wales.

James also urged Southgate to start Manchester United Marcus Rashford and Manchester City stars Phil Foden and Jack Grealish against Wales.

England will tonight face Wales in their final World Cup Group B tie.

The Three Lions head to the game after playing a 0-0 draw against the USA in their last game.

“I would drop Mason Mount and Raheem Sterling for Phil Foden and Jack Grealish,” James told Football Insights.

“When it comes to Phil Foden, I feel for Gareth Southgate. There are so many conversations about who he should start. I respectfully say Foden plays for a Man City side you would probably argue is better than England. Therefore what you see Foden doing for City, you have to ask has he got the players around him to do that for England?

“If you are Gareth, you know what you are doing, you got the point and top of the group, but if you are an England fan you are thinking you could have changed it to make it comfortable. “I hope Foden starts, I hope Rashford starts, but if we had all my hoping starters, you would have 17 players on the pitch.”
