JAMB warns against admission racketeering
By Sodiq Adelakun
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a stern warning against candidates engaging in underhand admission practices, emphasising that those found culpable will face the consequences.
The Board reaffirmed its stance that all admissions into tertiary institutions must be processed through its platform.
This admonition from JAMB came in response to a user’s query about improving the admission regularisation process.
Adenkule Adu, via Twitter handle @adu_adenkunke1, urged JAMB to streamline the regularisation procedure on its portal, citing difficulties faced when visiting physical offices for the process.
Expressing frustration with the current system, @adu_adenkunke1 lamented months of fruitless attempts at his state’s JAMB office, where he received nothing but excuses.
In response, JAMB suggested that instead of seeking improvements in the regularisation process, the focus should be on halting the exercise entirely.
The Board reiterated its policy that all tertiary institutions’ admissions must go through JAMB. Furthermore, JAMB emphasised that candidates opting for illegitimate admissions should be prepared to face the repercussions.
JAMB’s reply on social media underscored its stance against illegal admission practices, highlighting the audacity of those involved in such activities who then offer suggestions on the corrective process.
As debates around admission regularisation continue, JAMB’s stance serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and integrity in the education sector.
