Jakande’s death robs Nigeria of committed elder statesman –– Wamakko

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC- Sokoto), says the death of the first civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, has robbed Nigeria of a committed elder statesman.

Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District, made the remark in a condolence message signed by his Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, Malam Bashir Mani, on Thursday in Sokoto.

He said the deceased played invaluable roles in the entrenchment and sustenance of democracy in Lagos State and Nigeria.

The lawmaker stated that Lagos State recorded tangible giant strides between 1979 and 1983, when Jakande was the governor.

Wamakko said that Alhaji Jakande, who died on Thursday in Lagos at the age of 91, lived a life worthy of emulation, having made sacrifices to Lagos State and the country.

He prayed the Almighty Allah to grant him Aljannat firdaus, and grant his family, the people and Government of Lagos State and the entire Nigerians, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
