Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the disbursement of N10 million to eight young entrepreneurs, highlighting the state’s commitment to youth empowerment during the 2024 International Youth Day (IYD) celebrations

The Governor made the announcement on Tuesday at the Campos Mini Stadium on Lagos Island during the IYD grand finale.

The annual International Youth Day, observed on August 12, aims to spotlight youth issues and celebrate the potential of young people globally. This year’s theme is “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways to Sustainable Development.”

Sanwo-Olu praised the Amplifier Business Clinic, from which the eight beneficiaries were selected. Out of 350 applicants, 79 were chosen for the clinic.

He stated, “This third edition of the Amplifier Business Clinic does not only build on the successes and lessons of the past two editions but also represents a significant increase in our investment in the youth.”

The Governor emphasised that the N10 million grant is not just financial support but an investment in the future of the state.

He urged the beneficiaries to utilise the lessons learned and the networks built during the clinic.

“A grant of N10 million will be disbursed today to eight deserving businesses which is not merely a financial support but an investment in your dreams, future and prosperity of our state,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Sanwo-Olu also commended the Ministry of Youth and Social Development for organising impactful programs throughout the week. He noted, “Your energy, creativity and willingness to learn are exactly what Lagos State needs to continue on its path of progress and innovation.”

In addition to the grant distribution, the International Youth Day in Lagos featured a walk against drugs, environmental sanitation activities, health talks, orientation exercises, and an exhibition aimed at educating and sensitising the youth.

The Governor concluded with a reaffirmation of the state’s dedication to youth development, promising continued support for initiatives that empower young people.

“As we close this chapter of the 2024 IYD, I want to emphasise that our commitment to youth development remains unwavering,” Sanwo-Olu asserted.
