IWD: Kwara women hold interdenominational Church service

As the world gets set to mark the International Women’s Day (IWD) on Monday, Nigerian women have been called upon to dedicate and commit themselves to the work of God and humanity.

The Vicar-in-charge of the African Church, Kwara Diocese All Saints’ Parish, Sam Omojola made the call on Sunday in Ilorin in an interdenominational Church service to mark the 2021 IWD with the theme “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19 World.”

The IWD is celebrated globally every March 8 in recognition of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and also a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

Our Correspondent reports that the interdenominational service, which has prayer for the nation as the highlight, is part of activities lined up to mark the IWD.

Omolaja charged the womenfolk to get involved in politics and to make use of their wealth of experience in home management to build the nation.

Women, he said, could be better leaders.

Meanwhile, Mrs Comfort Adu, a former executive of the Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), charged women to rise and to stand victorious.

Adu said women should take up their responsibilities for the future without fear or intimidation, even in the face and season of COVID-19.

She encouraged women to be creative, adding that empowerment could only enhance creativity.

The Chairperson of WOWICAN, Maria Bukoye, said becoming a great leader had nothing to do with gender, but on the strength of the individual.

According to her, personality traits make up leadership attributes, whether in male or in female.

Bukoye called on the womenfolk to rise to the challenge before them and to continue to assist the state and country in prayers.

Special prayers were offered for Nigeria, the state, women, children, widows and orphans.

Prayers were also said for God to protect Nigerians and the world at large, and for divine intervention against insecurity, insurgency and the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world.
