The governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, said he finds it difficult to believe that even primary school pupils are now joining various dreaded cult groups.

Consequently, Gov. Abiodun called on parents to be responsible towards the welfare of their children.

The governor equally charged them to ensure their children proper upbringing in a bid to put an end to the rise in cultism in the state.

Abiodun made this call during the 50th anniversary of The Sagamites Club and the official commissioning of the new ultra modern hall, at the weekend.

According to the Governor, no meaningful development is possible in the atmosphere of insecurity.

While noting that the children who now move around contributing to the rise in cultism and insecurity are not spirits, but belong to some parents in the state, he insisted that parents should play their role by being responsible for their children.

“We cannot have socio-economic development where there is insecurity; our children are joining cult groups in Sagamu and killing one another

“These children didn’t drop from heaven. They have parents, they have fathers, they have mothers, they live somewhere and they are not spirits.

“Let us do our bit by being responsible, let us teach our children and bring them up right, our children are joining cults, primary school children are joining cults, it is unbelievable,” Abiodun said.

He disclosed that his administration, since it came on board, had begun to look at how best to reward the womenfolk which he described as very dependable.

He added that his administration realised the importance of women and came up with the ‘Oko’wo Dapo’ which had helped so many women in the state.

Abiodun, who further said that the scheme which began in just three local governments, had been extended to the remaining seventeen local government, stressing that his administration has also signed a 35% affirmative action for women, which he said would ensure that women either by election or appointment have at least a 35% representation in government.

The governor who also explained that some of the projects already completed by his administration has helped to improve the commercial value of the state, assured that government would not renege on its promise of rebuilding the state.

Abiodun, while commending the club for its contribution to the socio economic development of Sagamu and the state as a whole, said that he has no doubt that the club would continue to wax stronger.

He, however, disclosed that the International Agro Cargo Airport, embarked upon by his administration and set to be commissioned for the use of the people by the end of the year, would further boost economic activity as over twenty five thousand job opportunities would be created

Earlier, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, who commended the Club for their steadfastness and commitment towards the development of the town, urged them to continue to be role models.

In his remarks, the President, The Sagamites Club, Seni Adetu, while noting that the Club which was founded in February 1972 by a group of nine friends with the sole aim of advancing the socio-economic development of the Sagamu Community, has in recent years given over two hundred scholarships to indigent students of the town.

He commended Governor Abiodun for his good work across the state, acknowledging him for fixing the Oba Erinwole Road, which he said has helped to boost the socio economic development of the town.
