It’s blackmail to undermine Gov Bago’s ‘New Niger Agenda’ — Aide

The Niger State government has strongly refuted recent social media criticisms aimed at undermining the Governor Umaru Bago-led administration’s New Niger Agenda, labelling the attacks as attempts at blackmail.

In a statement disclosed to Nigerian NewsDirect, the Governor’s spokesperson, Malam Bologi Ibrahim, condemned what he referred to as a desperate attempt by certain online critics to tarnish the Governor’s initiatives.

Bologi, who serves as the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bago, expressed concern over the backlash despite the evident progress Niger State has made under the Governor’s leadership. He noted that although these critics acknowledged the Governor’s efforts in improving infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and security, they still resorted to unfairly describing the state’s development as “half-baked.”

“The criticism is clearly unfounded and fuelled by malicious individuals intent on undermining the significant progress being made in Niger State. Governor Bago has demonstrated unwavering determination, and it is unjust to dismiss the rapid transformation taking place in the state after barely two years in office,” Bologi said.

He further stressed that Niger State was undergoing a tangible socio-economic transformation, with notable advancements in food self-sufficiency, security, infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

According to Bologi, the New Niger Agenda is a realistic and forward-thinking plan designed to benefit the people of Niger and bring about lasting change. He argued that it should not be dismissed as unsustainable or lacking in direction.

“It is unfair and illogical for certain groups to criticise the state’s developmental progress, especially when the Governor’s New Niger Agenda is already making a positive impact. We are addressing long-standing issues with clear, strategic measures, and the results are evident to everyone except those blinded by their own prejudices,” he said.

Bologi also pointed out that it is unrealistic for any administration to solve all challenges overnight. The Governor’s spokesperson reiterated that Governor Bago has been transparent in his approach, stressing that the government’s efforts are beginning to yield tangible results, particularly in combating insecurity and revitalising the economy.

“Nigerlites have shown remarkable patience, and they remain overwhelmingly supportive of the government’s efforts. This administration is committed to the safety and well-being of the people, and it is evident that a new Niger is on the horizon,” Bologi added.
