Israeli defense minister issues warning to Lebanon amid rising tensions

On Thursday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant issued a strong warning to Lebanon, stating that if Hezbollah’s aggression persists, Israel will respond with full force.

Gallant emphasized Israel’s commitment to “peace, prosperity, and stability on both sides of the northern border” in a direct address to the Lebanese people.

He warned, “We will not allow the Hezbollah militia to destabilize the border and the region,” and added, “If Hezbollah continues its aggression, Israel will fight it with all its might.”

Gallant also cautioned, “Those who play with fire must expect destruction.”

This warning follows the recent killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukr in Tehran, which have increased the risk of a major conflict in the Middle East.

Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas have all threatened retaliation against Israel. Since the Palestinian militant group’s October 7 attack on Israel triggered the Gaza war, Hezbollah has engaged in near-daily exchanges of fire with Israel in support of Hamas.

The ongoing clashes have resulted in numerous civilian casualties in both Lebanon and Israel, with over 350 Hezbollah members and Israeli soldiers reported killed. Tens of thousands of residents on both sides of the border have been displaced.
