IPCC launches 6th round of scholarship awards

The Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)  has called for applications for the sixth round of its scholarship awards.

The Programme Officer of IPCC, Mr Mxolisi Shongwe, said in a statement on Wednesday  that the scholarship awards encouraged research proposals in living soils, biodiversity, regenerative viticulture, forestry, water management and terrestrial carbon cycle.

He, however, said that the proposals were not limited to the above-mentioned topics.

According to Shongwe, the applications, which  would start on Wednesday and end on March 28, would  mark the 10th anniversary of the scholarship programme.

He noted that the first awards were made in 2011.

He  quoted IPCC’s Vice-Chair, Ko Barrett, as saying: “We are delighted to announce another call for applications under the IPCC Scholarship Programme.

“We look forward to hearing from early career scientists from developing countries, especially least developed countries and small island developing states.”

It was reported that each scholarship award is for a maximum amount of €15,000 per year for up to two years during 2021-2023.

The IPCC Scholarship Programme was established with funds received from the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize award to IPCC.

The programme was further made possible by the contribution of its funding partners, including the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Cuomo Foundation.
