Africa’s Global Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, is set to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) with a series of impactful initiatives aimed at celebrating and empowering women, who remain a vital part of the bank’s success.

As part of its longstanding commitment to promoting gender equality and financial inclusion, UBA has outlined several strategic programmes designed to address key health, social, and economic challenges, while also offering tailored financial solutions to support women’s progress and achievements.

Under the theme “Accelerate Action for Her Progress,” UBA will roll out a variety of activities throughout March, including a Webinar Series, Trivia Challenges, a Business Series Live Event, Discount Offerings on Cards and Loans, and a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to distribute care kits to secondary school pupils.

These activities reaffirm the bank’s dedication to equipping women across Africa and beyond with the financial resources, knowledge, and opportunities needed to thrive in both their personal and professional lives.

A key feature of the initiative is the Webinar Series on Health and Social Issues, where expert speakers will discuss critical topics affecting women’s health and overall well-being. This informative session aims to provide valuable insights and solutions to empower women in making informed decisions about their health.

The Business Series Live Event will bring together accomplished female entrepreneurs, business leaders, and financial experts to share their experiences and offer guidance on business growth and financial management. The event is designed to inspire and equip emerging female business owners with the knowledge needed to succeed.

Additionally, UBA will introduce a Daily Trivia Challenge, an engaging and educational activity that will test participants’ knowledge on women’s empowerment and financial literacy while rewarding them for their participation.

Recognising the importance of nurturing young women, UBA, through its Foundation, will distribute Care Kits to secondary school pupils, further demonstrating its commitment to supporting and empowering the next generation of female leaders.

Speaking ahead of the planned activities for IWD 2025, UBA’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, reaffirmed that these initiatives align with the bank’s mission to be the preferred financial institution for women in retail and business. He noted that UBA would also be leveraging IWD to promote its targeted financial products, including low-interest loans specifically designed for female entrepreneurs and business owners.

“At UBA, we recognise the invaluable contributions of women in driving economic growth and societal transformation. Our initiatives for IWD 2025 reflect our unwavering commitment to supporting and empowering women across Africa and beyond,” Alawuba said.

“Through targeted financial products, knowledge-sharing sessions, and strategic partnerships, UBA remains dedicated to fostering an enabling environment where women can thrive in both business and personal finance. By amplifying these offerings, we aim to increase the acquisition and retention of female customers, ensuring they have access to the financial resources needed to succeed,” he added.

UBA continues to champion inclusivity and innovation, ensuring that women have the tools and opportunities required to excel in today’s dynamic economic landscape.

As one of the largest employers in Africa’s financial sector, UBA has 25,000 employees across its operations and serves over 45 million customers globally. With a presence in 20 African countries, as well as the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and the United Arab Emirates, UBA remains a leader in retail, commercial, and institutional banking, driving financial inclusion and deploying cutting-edge technology to serve its diverse clientele.
