International Nurses Week: Chief of Staff Charges nurses on professionalism despite COVID-19

Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, has charged nurses to always demonstrate professionalism even in the face of COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world.

Gambari gave the charge at the unveiling of the special edition of the Nurses Magazine “The Rising Stars Health First” produced by the nurses in the State House Clinic in Abuja on Thursday.

He said that there was need for the nurses to enhance their professionalism and the quality of services rendered in the challenging times.

The chief of staff said the state house clinic was wearing a new face and as such was good enough for the nurses to deliver quality services to the clinic.

Also, the Permanent Secretary, State House, Mr Tijjani Umar, said that the institutional capacity of the state house clinic was of paramount importance to address the health needs of the President, Vice President and their families.

“The health of the President, Vice President and their families is important to us. They need to be healthy to give us the great leadership that we need.

“So we have to continue to build the institutional capacity of the state house clinic.

“COVID-19 has affected our country in a negative way, so there is need for us to build the capacity of the clinic to address the challenges brought by the pandemic,” he said.

Umar said that recently an isolation centre and a molecular laboratory were inaugurated in the clinic to allow the users have the required facilities.

He also said that a number of projects would soon be inaugurated at the clinic as a further demonstration of commitment to addressing health related issues in the country.

Also, Mrs Habiba Ahmed, Head of Nursing in the state house clinic, called for a level playing ground for nurses to enable them perform their roles.

Ahmed said that the nurses played important roles to complement the physicians in hospitals, stressing “without the nurses, the physicians cannot perform their roles adequately’’.
