International Energy Summit: Global leaders to brainstorm on revitalising industry
Global energy leaders are set to discuss the way forward and strategies for management of Africa’s huge energy resources in the forthcoming Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES 2022).
The fifth edition of NIES 2022, with the theme “Revitalising the Industry: Future Fuels and Energy Transition” is scheduled to hold in Abuja from Feb. 27 to March 3.
Mr James Shindi, the Managing Director of Brevity Anderson, the event producer made this known in a statement on Monday.
Shindi said that in line with the tradition of the summit from inception, foreign energy ministers and stakeholders would join their Nigerian counterpart to advance strategies to move the industry forward.
According to him, Dr Mohammad Barkindo, the Secretary-General, Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is expected to attend the event.
Also expected at the summit according to him, include the Minister of Energy, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Abdulaziz Al Saud, represented by his assistant Dr Nasser AlDossary, and some African colleagues.
The rest are Tom Alweendo, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Namibia and Gabriel Lima, Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, Equatorial Guinea, among others.
“The OPEC scribe will arrive Nigeria for NIES 2022 after his participation at the Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS) in Cairo,’’ he said.
NIES, formerly known as Nigeria Petroleum Summit (NIPS) is reputed to be an annual gathering of international energy leaders, ministers, policy makers, academicians, information technology experts, industrialists, international energy journalists, businessmen and exhibitors.
“No doubt, the NIES has lived up to its billing as Africa’s most influential energy industry event.
“We designed it to be the continent’s largest and most important industry platform providing linkage to the world for engineering and technological breakthroughs, major contract sign offs and side events,” Shindi added.
NIES is a Federal Government of Nigeria official petroleum industry event with the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and all its parastatals including the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (NNPC).
