Zamfara State government has directed security operatives in the State to screen and prosecute any non-governmental organizations (NGO) that did not meet up with due clearance from relevant authorities.

The government ordered such organisations to leave the State over what it described as “illegal activities”.

According to the State Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, DIG Mamman Tsafe, (Rtd.) majority of the NGOs did not register with the State in line with the laid down rules and regulations of the government.

He said, “Most of the NGOs were discovered to be engaging in banditry activities, thereby worsening the insecurity situation of the State and its neighbourhood.

“The government has directed all such NGOs to vacate the State immediately.

“Ministries and Departments of government have been ordered to stop any further dealings with any such NGO because the State government’s punitive measures will not take it easy with any MDAs found having any dealings with such NGOs.

“Security agencies in the State are by this order directed to be vigilant.

“Security operatives are hereby directed to investigate and prosecute any NGO operating in the State without due clearance from designated authorities.

“Results of such prosecutions are to be forwarded to the Ministry of Security and Home Affairs for records.”
