The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Usman Alkali, on a working visit to Kaduna State, called on police officers to redouble efforts at protecting the lives and property of people.
Alkali who addressed the personnel at the police command head quarters on Thursday, said “Kaduna is a dynamic state which has a population of people from various works of life”.
He noted that policing in Kaduna State had been challenging and daunting.
He also observed that policing the state required dedication, professionalism, respect for human rights and commitment to doing the right thing from the police officers.
“While we know that this job is very challenging, we may not have the complete tools to work with.
“But we can manage with what we have if we have a change of attitude towards our job”, Alkali said.
He assured the command of more support and increase in deployment of personnel for security of the state and the country.
Also speaking, the Kaduna State Commisioner of Police, Mr Umar Muri, said “the state is faced with worrisome crime waves which included kidnapping, culpable homicide, armed robbery, rape and other forms of crimes.
“I must emphasise the disheartening crime bedevilling the state at the moment which is the horrifying activities of kidnappers that have apparently occupied the forests, kidnapping innocent students”.
Muri stressed the issue of insufficient manpower, acute shortage of logistics and patrol vehicles in the command and the need to improve them.
He thanked the I-G for the visit and reiterated his commitment to security of the state.
Reports said that the I-G also visited the Kaduna State Government house where he interacted with Gov. Nasir el-Rufa’i.
