Insecurity: House of Reps raises 40-member committee, sends report to President

Joshua Elekwachi, Abuja.

The House of Representatives has set up a 40-member Special Committee to look into the security situation in the country and forward recommendations to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The decision to raise the committee was taken at an executive session held on Wednesday, presided over by the Speaker, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, in Abuja.

The speaker, while announcing the membership of the committee, said they would sit within the next two to three weeks and recommend the “way forward to stem the security problems in the country.”

The membership of the committee compromises the 10 principal officers of the House and 30 other members.

Each of the 36 states of the Federation has at least one member on the special committee.

Gbajabiamila explained that the committee would start sitting in a couple of days from now.

“We need to get to work straight away and submit a report to the House within two, three weeks, for onward transmission to Mr President,” the speaker stated.
