Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, Founder and CEO of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing, has announced that the public will soon benefit from more affordable transportation via Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses. He urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, requesting “time” for its plans to unfold.
After a meeting with President Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Chukwuma revealed that CNG buses will soon be widespread. He praised the Presidential CNG Initiative as a significant step forward, highlighting that CNG offers numerous advantages for Nigeria.
Chukwuma emphasized his belief in CNG’s potential, noting that he began producing CNG vehicles and kits in anticipation of this shift, and affirmed that CNG is the future for Nigeria’s transportation sector.
Thursday’s meeting followed President Tinubu’s nationwide address five days earlier, where he pledged to distribute “a million kits at extremely low or no cost” to commercial vehicles that transport people and goods, which currently consume 80% of imported Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
Tinubu highlighted that despite Nigeria’s rich oil and gas resources, the country has relied exclusively on petrol, overlooking its gas potential. He claimed the CNG initiative would save Nigeria N2 trillion monthly by reducing reliance on imported fuel and subsidizing its use.
“The initiative aims to transition our transportation sector to Compressed Natural Gas, cutting costs and freeing up resources for greater investment in healthcare and education,” Tinubu said.
