INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood lauds turnout for CVR exercise in Edo

The National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has lauded the turnout for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Edo State.

Yakubu said the exercise has witnessed fresh registrants, application for transfer and collection of Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

This was just as he stated that the recent flood disaster which damaged some facilities at the INEC headquarters in Benin City, the State capital, would not hinder the smooth conduct of the September 21 governorship election in the State.

The flood which was occasioned by torrential rainfall on May 24. amongst others, destroyed some voter enrollment machines already configured for the CVR.

Yakubu disclosed this when he visited the State to inspect the level of damage to its facilities, and afterwards visited some CVR centers to monitor the exercise.

The INEC chairman who promised to replace the damaged facilities before the election however said they poses no threat to the ongoing CVR and election.

According to him, “we will do assessment of what we need to do, so that we will respond appropriately.

“The Edo election. We can rely on our resources from neighbouring State to ensure there are no issues
because INEC is one national body.

“The present Commission has enough experience in conducting governorship election in Edo State… This is the third since 2016,” he stated.
