The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has urged the 36 newly inducted pharmacists of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, to explore research to strengthen vaccine production in Nigeria.
Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed, Registrar of the Council stated this at the induction of the graduands in Zaria on Wednesday.
He said that through research and development, Pharmacists contribute to the discovery and development of new vaccines that are essential elements of health security.
The registrar, represented by the Northwest Coordinator of the Council, Mr Bisi Obisesan, congratulated the University management for graduating 36 Pharmacists.
He said that the inductees were taught with determination and resilience to attain the level they had achieved.
Ahmed said the council abhors all professional misconduct and urged the inductees to maintain high ethical standards as prescribed by the council.
He urged them to get acquainted with the Pharmacy Code of Ethics which is indispensable to the profession.
The registrar said the inductees were done with the first phase of their career, and the second phase starts with the internship programme which is compulsory for all registered pharmacists.
Earlier, Prof. Kabiru Bala, Vice-Chancellor of ABU, congratulated the graduands for the fresh achievement.
Bala, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Ahmed Ibrahim, encouraged them to go into the society with a high sense of humility and respect that the profession commands.
He urged them to give back to their alma mater, stressing that the faculty has over the years received donations from Alumni Associations.
In a valedictory speech, the representative of the graduands, Malam Jafar Suleiman, assured the faculty and the University management of their readiness to contribute towards the development of the University.
