As Nigeria marks its 60th Independence Anniversary, a lawmaker in the Crose River House of Assembly, Mr Hilary Bisong, has called on Nigerians to be united in order to curb the security challenges facing the nation.
In his Independence message made available to newsmen on Thursday in Calabar, the lawmaker said its only unity, love and cooperation of all Nigerians that would help to reduce cases of insecurity across the country.
Bisong, who commended the military for its doggedness in the fight against insurgency in troubled spots in the country, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to re-appraise the operations of the security chiefs.
He noted that no meaningful development can thrive in a hostile situation, hence the need for the Federal Government to deploy adequate manpower to trouble spots across the country.
Bisong called on Nigerians to always avail security agencies with timely information that would help them to respond to cases of emergency on time.
“Nigeria is 60 today and we have to be thankful to God that the country has remained one irrespective of its numerous challenges.
“At this critical stage in time, we must close ranks and show our unity in order to help us defeat the myriads of security challenges facing us daily,” he said.
On employment, the lawmaker observed that Nigeria was celebrating her 60th Independence anniversary with millions of youths still unemployed.
He urged the Federal and State Governments to budget social funds that would help the youths to start productive small scale businesses.
The lawmaker lauded Gov. Ben Ayade industrial drive in Cross River, expressing assurance that the industries would generate more revenue to the state coffers and provide jobs for the youths.
He thanked his constituents for their continued support and corporation for all his activities, adding that he would continue to deliver dividends of democracy to them.
