Bauchi State House of Assembly has charged Governor Bala Mohammed to include mass construction of rural roads in his 2020 fiscal budget to foster accessibility of agricultural produce which is capable of boosting economy of the State.
The Speaker, Hon. Abubakar Suleiman who raised the motion in the floor of the House said many rural roads are in deplorable conditions. He cited Nasaru —Gwam – Balma to Arinja which connects Ningi-Burra road in Ningi Local Government Area.
The House made the resolution following a motion moved by the Speaker, Abubakar (Ningi Central Constituency) who urged the Executive arm to fast track construction of rural roads.
While moving the motion, the Speaker said that communities of Nasaru, Balma, Gwam, Arinja and many others in his constituency were suffering due to lack of road network.
He described road network as panacea to achieving national growth and development and overall performance and social functioning of communities.
He therefore called on the Government to construct the road so as to improve access to market centres for the rural producers, have better availability of farm inputs in reduced price, access to market in favour of cash crops and commercialisation of agricultural activities and enhance employment opportunities, access to education, health centres and farmlands.
Abubakar commended Governor Bala Mohammad for his commitment “in bringing direct life-touching programmes toward the betterment of the people of Bauchi State by giving emphasis on the rural development.”
He urged him to consider communities of Ningi Local Government in construction of rural roads so as create multiple socioeconomic benefits which will form a strong backbone for the agro-based economy in the State.
