Imole buses will be converted to CNG models — Adeleke

By Ismail Azeez, Osogbo

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced the state government’s plan to convert Imole buses to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) models.

In a statement released on Sunday evening by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke revealed that his administration began pursuing CNG adoption in January of this year and has been working closely with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as part of this effort.

Governor Adeleke noted that the state is engaged in public-private partnership discussions with three companies, including a local CNG firm, which has made significant progress in the implementation process.

He indicated that the Imole buses currently providing palliative transport services on Osun roads will soon be converted to CNG models. Additionally, Osun is set to benefit from a federal initiative supporting CNG adoption.

The Governor’s plan includes establishing dedicated CNG charging points and acquiring more CNG-powered buses through public-private partnerships to enhance the state’s transport services.

Adeleke emphasised the commitment of the Ministry of Energy and Transport to advance this initiative, despite the complex technical requirements involved.

He highlighted the proactive nature of his administration, noting recent advancements such as the introduction of Osun’s first ICT and Tech Innovation Policies and the preparation of the state’s Electricity Market Bill for legislative action.

“Our administration is not one to merely discuss digital and technological advancements without action. We are committed to modern innovations and alternative energy sources, which are integral to our agro-industrialisation strategy for the state,” Adeleke stated.

The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to integrating modern technologies and alternative power sources into Osun’s development plans, reinforcing the state’s focus on sustainable and innovative solutions.
