Imo athletes ready for Edo 2020 after taking COVID-19 vaccine jabs — Commissioner

The Imo Government says the state athletes for the National Sports Festival, tagged Edo 2020, have completed their COVID-19 vaccine jabs and ready for the competition.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Dan Agu, said this on Thursday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, while interacting with newsmen on the readiness of the athletes.

He said contingents from the state felt stronger after going through the mandatory COVID-19 test and vaccine.

“In line with the imperatives of ensuring affirmative public health measures and all COVID-19 safety protocol, Imo athletes have complied fully with the directive and ready to face any opponent.

“I am assuring the state that we will have a great outing and performance and I commend Gov. Hope Uzodinma for his undiluted support for sports development in Imo,” Agu said.

He urged all the athletes to be good ambassadors of the state by shunning unwholesome behaviour during the sports fiesta.

“Go and win laurels and honour for Imo. We are known in Imo for winning laurels and we must remain steadfast,” the commissioner said.
