Imo Assembly hails ISIEC over successful LG polls
The Imo House of Assembly, on Tuesday, hailed the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) for the successful conduct of Saturday’s Local Government Elections in the state.
The House commendation came, following a motion moved by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr Amarachi Iwuanyanwu.
Iwuanyanwu said that the election produced 27 Chairmen and 305 Councillors.
According to him, the elections were free and fair and devoid of violence.
He attributed the situation to the concerted efforts of Gov. Hope Uzodimma.
The deputy speaker also described the election as an indication of political growth in the state, especially with the turnout of voters, which he deemed “impressive.”
He, therefore, commended the ISIEC Chairman, Mr Charles Ejiogu, and the commission’s workers for a successful process.
He also congratulated the winners, while charging them to strive to develop their areas.
Supporting the motion, the Chief Whip, Mr Chigozie Nwaneri, said that ISIEC officials displayed professionalism and readiness.
Nwaneri also commended the governor for ensuring that everything needed for a successful election was put in place.
The member representing Ideato North, Mr Okechukwu Udeze, observed that election materials arrived early in his constituency and voting was free and fair.
Also, Mr James Esile (Onuimo constituency) said that there were no reports of violence, describing the election as “a show of acceptance.”
Following other contributions in support of the motion, the Speaker, Mr Chike Olemgbe, ruled in favour the prayers sought.
