Imiaze youth destroy palace over succession crisis

The youth of the Imiaze community in Edo State have taken a drastic step in response to the prolonged succession crisis following the death of their king on October 28, 2023.

In an unprecedented act of rebellion, they destroyed the palace, expressing frustration with the ruling family and the ongoing leadership vacuum.

An insider revealed that according to Imiaze tradition, the king’s death is kept secret and followed by deadly rituals to install the eldest son as the new ruler.

However, John Erameh Jr., the late king’s only son and heir, has refused to participate in the customary rites, citing personal beliefs. This defiance has sparked deep divisions in the community, where the preservation of tradition is held sacred.

More than a year has passed since the king’s death, and the absence of a ruler has created tension among the people.

The council of chiefs is reportedly exploring ways to appease the gods while addressing the succession impasse.

However, the youth have grown increasingly impatient, declaring their intention to search for John Erameh Jr. and urging him to assume his traditional role.

Local sources say this is the first time in the history of Imiaze that a king’s successor has declined the throne, leading to fears of divine repercussions.

As the palace lies in ruins and the community remains divided, all eyes are on the ruling family and traditional council for a resolution to this historic crisis.
