Imaweje students’ crisis: TASUED remains shut – Management

Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta

The management of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) Ijagun has said that the university still remain shut urging parents and guardians as well as the students of the school to ignore the rumour being peddled about the reopening of the university.

This was according to the statement from the Registrar of the university, Mr Dapo Oke and made available to journalists on Monday at Abeokuta, the state capital

The school management disclosed that the shutting down of the school on the heels of the crisis which erupted between the students of the school and Imaweje, one of its host communities last month was still intact as the Senate of the university has not given any contrary directive.

The management said following the shut down of the institution by the University Senate about two weeks ago, in the wake of the Imaweje/students’ clash, a committee had been set up to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the crisis and the circumstances that led to the death of a 300 level student of the school which was believed to have aggravated the crisis.

The statement said “consequently, the University Senate would hold a meeting tomorrow, 13th June, 2023, to receive and consider the reports of the Committee and thereafter take necessary decisions as regards the reopening of the University.

“The University wishes to put it on record that there would be an official announcement for the reopening of the institution.
Members of the public are hereby enjoined to monitor the media for the official announcement.

I”n the meantime, parents and guardians are advised not to allow their wards back on campus until the school is officially re-opened”.
