I’m the most experienced – Barau Jibrin declares senate presidency ambition

Senator Barau Jibrin, the Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation, Wednesday declared his ambition to contest for the position of the Senate President in the 10th National Assembly.

Barau, representing Kano Central Senatorial District, promised to kick start his campaign in the coming weeks officially.

Speaking with journalists on Wednesday, the senator stated that he is the most ranking and experienced among those contesting the position with him.

He said: ”I intend to seek to be the President of the 10th Senate. I will formally declare and start my campaign in the next few days. The legislature is a distinct arm of government that doesn’t work based on sentiments but works on your ability to get the job done.

“Remember that David Mark was a Christian, Ike Ekweremadu, his Deputy was a Christian, and Patricia Etteh, the Speaker was a Christian because they were the most ranking, experienced and that is the tradition, so do we relegate competence to other sentiments.

“It is clear in the Senate Standing Rule that election for the Office of the Senate President shall be in accordance with most experience and ranking. And among those seeking to occupy that office, I have the highest ranking and experience.”
